What's AiR all about

Welcome to our home, and into the world of Arts in Redditch! So what are we all about? To answer your question here’s a riddle for the people of Redditch for those who haven’t worked it out yet or want to find out a little bit more about the idea...

AiR is everywhere. It moves through our schools and youth centres, theatres, village halls and residential home. It transforms our streets, parks and open spaces. It brings to life our communities and gives a voice to those who thought they had nothing to say.

AiR gives us breathing space….time to think….to learn, to make new friends, to ask questions, and to feel free again.

AiR is about breathing new life into Redditch, the vital element in our town’s environment encouraging new ideas and inquisitive visitors.

But what does AiR stand for?

AiR stands for increasing the life expectancy of our creative communities, it stands for working together in partnership across Redditch and beyond, giving us pride in the place that we live.

But what does it mean?

Open up your doors and windows to let it in. AiR stands for Arts in Redditch!

It's pretty obvious that we are a “What's On Guide” or a place to find out about where performances are happening. Additionally we can tell you  where the nearest painting, drama or dance group is for you to be able to join. However, we want it to be more than that.

The AiR Project has been building up over a period of about seven years. It’s about anything and everything to do with the Arts in Redditch and this website is its meeting place! You can participate, find out more, seek advice, make your point and express yourself!

We are a team of organisations and individuals, interested in and really passionate about the power the arts has to transform a place, that work together to breathe new life into the Arts in Redditch.

We’re too numerous to mention so just explore our site and you’ll soon get the picture. We meet as a partnership every other month to look at what our plans should be in the near future and what we want to achieve in the long term.

We’ve just come to the end of our first 5 year plan “From Paolozzi to Panto: Preparing Redditch for the Arts 2003-2008” and now we need your help, where ever you are, in Redditch or beyond, to think up some more ideas and create alongside us a new plan to get people more involved with AiR.

We want to work with people in Redditch with the help of AiR to Celebrate Life, Feel Free, Breathe new life into Redditch, transform it, and give people a voice…..Being creative is the way we believe we can do this.

So here goes! It’s your turn! What do you think? In the coming months we want to pull together your views into a new plan for the way forward: getting more people doing and seeing arts activity of all kinds. But we don’t want it to sit on a shelf and gather dust. This wants to be a living and breathing plan that can move, and not only that, move forwards! So come down into the cellar below our house. There’s where the heart of our weird and wacky operation can be found! Pop your ideas in the Arts in Redditch machine that you find down there and we’ll see what comes out the other end!
